The Adult Basic Education Program (ABE) of the West Virginia Department of Education allows adults to acquire and improve functional skills such as speaking, listening, reading, writing, thinking, and math skills as well as English as a Second Language.

West Virginia Tech Prep prepares students for a highly skilled technical occupation that allows either direct entry into the workplace as a qualified technician or continuation with further education.

Contact the West Virginia Workplace Education Program for on-site, customized basic skill training in areas such as applied math, teamwork, and communication.  Also, business and industry pre-hire assessment development and pre-hire basic skills classes are offered statewide.

Workplace Education classes are provided under the direction of the State ABE Program and are designed to provide customized basic skill programs, ACT WorkKeys job profiling, and/or pre-employment LINKS (Lifelong Instruction in New Knowledge and Skills) programs for new or expanding industry.

The Center for Business and Industry Clearinghouse provides a statewide centralized database and resource center for workforce education providers and those in need of training or retraining. The Center is a partnership between West Virginia State College and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

Workforce Development and Technical Training programs at the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI) at Marshall University are custom designed to meet the needs of manufacturers.  RCBI provides statewide and regional access to advanced technology and technical training to small and medium sized companies.

The Electronic Campus of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) is an “electronic marketplace” for courses, programs and services. All courses and programs are offered through distance learning by accredited colleges and universities in the SREB states.

The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce provides business leadership to meet state and regional issues.  The Education Committee provides a forum for promoting education and good schools and is particularly interested in workforce development issues.
