The Office of Adult and
Community Education of the South Carolina Department of
Education identifies community needs and resources in organizing
school/community based educational programs designed to provide
lifelong learning, health, and service opportunities for all,
and to provide the necessary leadership and resources for the
development of those programs.

The
Adult Basic Education (ABE) program provides the
opportunity for adults with low literacy skills, (less than 8th
grade level), to work with materials and to be taught in an
environment conducive for their level, to improve their reading,
math and writing skills. Technical assistance is made available
to adult education providers.

for the delivery of workplace educational resources, training
and technical support to the adult education community,
fostering employee competence and economic development.
Its delivery system works through the adult education program
provider within each county.

Education Programs from South Carolina Technical Colleges
can offer you and your company: customized training,
occupational upgrading, assessment of training needs, basic
skills assessment/ testing, technical training, curriculum
development to match job skills required by employees,

South Carolina Tech Prep
of the Department of Education prepares students for a highly
skilled technical occupation that allows either direct entry
into the workplace as a qualified technician or continuation
with further education.

The GED Testing Program
provides adults who have not graduated from high school a means
by which they may earn a high school diploma, which may lead to
entrance into higher education, increased opportunities for
employment, or military enlistment.

South Carolina Literacy Resource Center serves as a site
for training for adult literacy providers, as a reciprocal link
with the National Institute for Literacy for information sharing
and as a clearinghouse for state-of-the-art literacy materials
and technology.
