The North
Carolina Board of Education supervises and administers the
free public school system and the educational funds provided for

The Apprenticeship
and Training Bureau of the North Carolina Department of
Labor designs and implements several employment and training
programs. These include developing individualized or group
models, pilots of demonstration programs, and developing new
processes or tools.

The North
Carolina Community College Literacy Resource Center has a
variety of resources for employers, including a Program
Finder Data Base of information on NC basic skills / literacy
programs and contacts, an Online Resource Catalog of library
materials and access to information regarding legislation,
policies, forms and reports of concern to the basic skills /
literacy community in North Carolina.

The Division of Employment
and Training of the North Carolina Department of Commerce
administers a statewide system of workforce programs that
prepare North Carolina’s citizens with serious barriers to
employment for participation in the labor force. These programs
provide high support training and other services that result in
increased employment and earnings, increased educational and
occupational skills, and decreased welfare dependency.

Carolina Community College System provides

training and retraining for the workforce, including basic

pre-baccalaureate programs; support

North
Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry promotes
the retraining of adults in the critical skills needed to
compete in the global marketplace, and encourages incentives for
employers to initiate programs in workforce development.

The Employment
Security Commission of North Carolina collects,
organizes and disseminates information about the operation of
the labor market, such as worker availability, long range trends
in employment, occupational wage rates and industry projections.
This data helps employers focus in on opportunities and trends
in the state.

The Workforce
Development Education Unit of North Carolina's Department of
Public Instruction provides vocational-technical education
programs and services to youth and adults.

Support
The Workforce Development
Institute provides for development and training needs of
staff and volunteers working within the North Carolina workforce
development system. Other projects include coordination of
interagency training for one-stop implementation sites, a
clearing house of a core curriculum for workforce development
direct-services staff, and certification of workforce
development professionals.

Education Assistance Authority provides scholarship and
grant information to North Carolina residents pursuing an
