The Bureau of Adult Education of the New Hampshire Department of Education provides grants to school districts and private not-for-profit organizations for educational services to adults who have not received a high school diploma or GED certificate, or do not read, write or speak English.

Resource Materials and Providers

The Adult Learning Center, a private, not-for-profit agency, provides classes for students who need help with their basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.  Beginning readers can learn to read in a non-threatening environment.  All programs are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale based on income and family size.

The New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC) strengthens adult literacy services in the area through sharing and collaborative special projects among State Literacy Resource Centers (SLRC), adult literacy practitioners and policy-makers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation of the New Hampshire Department of Education provides on-the-job training for new employees.  They can then learn the skills necessary to perform the job to the employer’s satisfaction.  On-the-Job training programs with VR also help to defray the customary training costs.

New Hampshire Tech Prep of the Department of Education prepares students for a highly skilled technical occupation that allows either direct entry into the workplace as a qualified technician or continuation with further education.

The Bureau of Adult Education administers the GED (General Educational Development) Testing Program. The New Hampshire GED Certificate is a high school completion credential. Testing is available at twenty local testing sites in New Hampshire.

provides links to academic and training programs.  Worker training, flexible course schedules and training grants are accessible ways for workers and business owners alike to gain knowledge about the industries and the economy.

Labor Market Information

The Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire is New Hampshire's leading trade association.  The Association advocates for business interests with state and federal legislators and regulators.

New Hampshire's Economic and Labor Market Information Bureau gathers data on employment and wages in the state from employers. Other State agencies and the U.S. Census Bureau also use surveys to gather sample data such as employment, earnings and hours, occupations by industry, and labor force status.
