Adult Education of the New Hampshire Department of
Education provides grants
to school districts and private not-for-profit organizations
for educational services to adults who have not received a
high school diploma or GED certificate, or do not read,
write or speak English.

Materials and Providers
The Adult
Learning Center, a private, not-for-profit agency,
provides classes for students who need help with their basic
skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Beginning
readers can learn to read in a non-threatening
environment. All programs are provided free of charge
or on a sliding scale based on income and family size.

The
New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC)
strengthens adult literacy services in the area
through sharing and collaborative special projects among
State Literacy Resource Centers (SLRC), adult literacy
practitioners and policy-makers in Connecticut, Maine,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The Office of Vocational
Rehabilitation of the New Hampshire Department of
Education provides on-the-job training for new
employees. They can then learn the skills necessary to
perform the job to the employer’s satisfaction.
On-the-Job training programs with VR also help to defray the
customary training costs.

Prep of the Department of Education prepares students
for a highly skilled technical occupation that allows either
direct entry into the workplace as a qualified technician or
continuation with further education.

The Bureau of
Adult Education administers the GED (General
Educational Development) Testing Program. The New
Hampshire GED Certificate is a high school completion
credential. Testing is available at twenty local testing
sites in New Hampshire.
