The Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) program, from the Ohio Department of Education, provides educational opportunities for adults who lack basic literacy skills needed for effective citizenship, further education, and productive employment. Free instruction in basic literacy, workplace literacy, English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, and preparation for the General Education Development (GED) test is provided.

The Ohio Literacy Resource Center provides support, training and resources for the people who work in the field of Adult Basic and Literacy Education in the state of Ohio. The Center stimulates joint planning and coordination of adult literacy services at the local, regional, and state levels.

The Central Illinois Adult Education Service Center delivers staff development to community college and public school adult education and community based programs.  Resource specialists present on-site and regional workshops, design and edit training manuals, maintain a resource library and facilitate Workforce Education and ESL Provider group meetings.

Ohio College Tech Prep of the Board of Regents prepares students for a highly skilled technical occupation that allows either direct entry into college and further education or the workplace as a qualified technician.

Labor Market Information

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce, through its HR Solutions Center, provides support for employers involved in employee training, including answers to common questions, information on Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training, sample job descriptions and appraisal forms.

The Ohio Labor Market Information web site, from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, is an employer resource for reports and data about employment levels, unemployment rates, wages and earnings, employment projections, jobs, training resources, and careers.

Learning Support

The Ohio Training Tax Credit Program provides a wide range of selected Ohio employers with a tax credit of up to $100,000 a year to help offset the costs of training current workers.  The credits may be used to pay for training materials, travel and wages of trainer and trainees.
