The Division of Career Technology and Adult Learning (DCTAL) of Maryland's Department of Education oversees career and technology education and adult learning.  The Adult Education and Literacy Services Branch works with local education agencies, including community colleges, literary councils and others to provide adult basic and secondary education programs and services.

Resource Materials and Providers

Maryland State Adult Literacy Resource Center collects and disseminates information, resources and data about literacy to adult literacy providers and support groups throughout the state. The Center's lending library contains a collection of materials covering ABE, Computer-Assisted Instruction, Employability Skills, GED, Learning Disabled Adults, Math, Pre-GED, Reading, and Workplace Literacy.

Maryland Community Colleges' Business Training Network (MCC BTN) is composed of the sixteen community colleges in the State of Maryland. MCC BTN exclusively offers the ability to develop training on topics you choose, the flexibility to train your staff, regardless of number, using state-of-the-art equipment, versatility to do this at your site or theirs, during hours convenient for you - all at reasonable prices.

The Department of Business and Economic Development provides businesses in Maryland with workforce training assistance. Its workforce development programs involve employers with the education and training community.  Free recruitment and job training assistance is provided to employers as well as client screening for some jobs.

Maryland Institute for Employment & Training Professionals provides training for individuals working in the Maryland workforce development system. The Institute is funded by the State of Maryland and by registration fees.

The Maryland Workforce Academy, a partnership between the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the University of Maryland and other educational institutions, offers a one-stop shop for identifying credit and non-credit training programs for employees.
