The Division of Adult Education, in the Indiana Department of Education, addresses the educational needs of adults whose skills range from minimal or no literacy skills to GED preparation level. The ABE program also offers basic skills, English Literacy, and life skills instruction.

The Indiana Department of Commerce offers employee training assistance, including the Indiana's Skills Enhancement Fund which provides financial assistance to new and expanding companies committed to training their workers.

The Indiana Literacy and Technical Education Resource Center houses a collection of videos, audiocassettes, books, pamphlets, serials, and newsletters focused on literacy, adult education, technical education, and career/workplace information.   Materials for GED preparation and ESL are also available.

The Indiana Division of Adult Education offers the Adult Secondary Credit (ASC), which allows adults (16 to 21 years of age) who did not finish high school to return and earn credits toward a high school diploma.  Vocational training is frequently provided as well.

The General Educational Development (GED) program has become a significant means for adults to acquire a state of Indiana GED Diploma. The GED test covers writing skills, social studies, science, mathematics, and literature and the arts.  Seventy-nine testing sites are located throughout the state.

Indiana public television stations (PBS) and many cable systems carry Learn at Home programming. The exciting new GED Connection series includes 39 half-hour television programs that cover the reading, writing, social studies, science, and math skills adults need to brush up on to pass the GED high school equivalency tests.

In many areas, Indiana public television stations (PBS) and many cable systems carry Learn at Home programming.  The new Workplace Essential Skills series of 24 half-hour television programs is for adults who want to increase their skills in the areas of finding employment, work readiness basics, communication (both written and verbal), and workplace reading and math.

The Lifelong Learning Institute of the state Department of Workforce Development provides training for individuals working in the Indiana workforce development system. The Institute is funded by the State of Indiana and by registration fees.

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce provides links to Indiana population, demographics, and business and industry statistics.  You can also find data by county on the size of the labor force, major occupation groups, employment by industry, firms and employment by size and average annual wages by industry or commuting patterns.

The Indiana Business Research Center collects, organizes, analyzes, interprets and disseminates economic and demographic information for and about the state of Indiana. This information is distributed throughout  the state via the Web and through print publications.

Learning Support

Indiana Literacy Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening basic skills among children and adults by working with and through volunteer literacy programs across Indiana.  With companies, individual and volunteer support, it encourages the value of lifelong learning.
