In addition to preK-12 public education, the Colorado Department of Education oversees non-collegiate adult education efforts in Colorado, including adult literacy programs and GED equivalency examinations.

Resource Materials and Providers

The State Literacy Resource Center serves the Denver metro area as well as the state.  Hosted by the Colorado Department of Education, Center for At-Risk Education - Family and Adult Literacy, the Centre focuses on current issues in adult/family literacy, reference and research and is the central contact point for information on the State Literacy Resource Center program.

Community Colleges of Colorado prepare students for a highly skilled technical occupation that allows either direct entry into the workplace as a qualified technician or continuation with further education.

The Northern Colorado Literacy Resource Center of Longmont serves the northern, northeastern and eastern plains (excluding Denver Metro area).   Hosted by St. Vrain Valley Adult Education, the Centre focuses on English as a second language, professional development/teacher training, and 0 - 4 level reading.

The Southern Colorado Literacy Resource Center of Trinidad serves southern Colorado including the San Luis Valley.  Hosted by the Trinidad State Junior College, Adult Education Services, the Centre focuses on family literacy, and workplace literacy/workforce education.

The Four Corners Resource Center of Cortez serves the Four Corners region, western Colorado and mountain areas, as well as the state.  Hosted by Southwest BOCES, the Centre focuses on regional and state-wide distance learning, SCANS competencies and skills.

Colorado's Career and Technical Education Programs provide curriculum and instructional materials to secondary and post-secondary vocational educators on subjects including adult education.

Labor Market Information

The Colorado Association of Commerce & Industry (CACI) and the Community Colleges of Colorado have launched a joint workplace-skills project to better align manufacturing technology programs with the actual workforce development needs of Colorado manufacturers.

The American Indian College Fund raises money from corporations, foundations, and individuals to support scholarships and other developmental needs at the member colleges of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium.
